"Two survivors. One beast."

Welcome to the early build of MINOTAUR - Co-op Labyrinth, a retro-inspired survival horror experience from solo developer Eric "Neuman". Built with passion and old-school logic, this game pits you against a procedural maze that never repeats and a Minotaur that can literally smell your fear.

THE SETTING

You are trapped in the deep corridors of a shifting dungeon. The game uses a procedural generation algorithm based on the original ROGUE. To escape, you must find the Exit Ladder on each floor. But there's a catch: the labyrinth is pitch black, and you aren't alone.

CO-OP OR SOLO: YOU CHOOSE

  • Player 1 (The Lantern): You carry the only source of light. Without you, the team is blind. Keep your oil refilled or watch the shadows close in.
  • Player 2 (The Slinger): You carry the stones that can stun the Minotaur. You are blind in the dark, so stay close to the light!
  • Solo Mode (The "Brain-Split" Challenge): Feeling brave? Play alone and control both survivors at the same time (WASD for the Lantern, Arrows for the Slinger).

THE BEAST

It hunts you all the time. Using an advanced scent-tracking system, the Minotaur follows the "breadcrumbs" of your trail through the maze. If he sees you, he charges. Your only hope is a well-placed rock or a desperate dash for the exit.

CURRENT FEATURES (In-Dev)

  • Serverless Real-time Multiplayer: Powered by Ably for low-latency synchronization.
  • Procedural Maps: Algorithms shift from open "Rogue-style" rooms to claustrophobic "Maze corridors" as you descend.
  • Retro Aesthetics: 8-bit "Press Start" UI and crisp pixel art.
  • AI-assisted coding: I used AI to help structure complex systems, though every line was carefully reviewed and adjusted to fit the game's soul.

CONTROLS

Multiplayer:

  • Move: Arrow Keys
  • Shoot (Slinger/Player 2): Space Bar

Solo Mode:

  • Lantern Man (P1): W, A, S, D
  • Slinger (P2): Arrow Keys
  • Shoot: Space Bar

NOTE FROM THE DEV

This game is currently in active development. I'm working hard to polish the code, add new floor types, and enhance the atmosphere. Grab a friend, test the limits of the labyrinth, and let me know how many floors you managed to clear!
